About a month ago I transfered my domains from a local Godaddy reseller, to Namecheap.

Why them? Because so many of the people I trust online use them and vouched for them.

As I was hopping, everything with Namecheap was pretty straightforward. I already had an account there, but I had no domains. I logged in, initiated the transfers and paid, waited for the domains to transfer (it took 5 days if I remember it right), setup the whois info, locked the domains so that I don't end-up losing them (new ICANN rules make hijaking domains a rather easy thing) and that was it.

Here I am, one month later, and I've almost forgot about them, except that I had to register this domain for this very forum. Smiley

Now, if you want someone to review their interface I'm not the person to do it. I tend to find my way in almost everything and I'm not picky in general.

In all, things worked exactly as they should: highly automated and reliable. If things continue like this I might never switch registrars again. Smiley

I recently started using Namecheap.  Prior I had been using NetworkSolutions, I know don't start on me for wasting money.  I heard about NameCheap from some fellow Micfo.com members in their forum, someone had started a thread on what registrar do you use.  I checked out the NameCheap site and found their control panel intuitive and the prices cheap, so I started using them.  I suppose power users may find some faults but for someone like me that registers a name and doesn't return until its time to renew I found NameCheap easy to use, able to do everything I need (and a bunch of stuff I don't need) and quick.
I don't know how long they plan on keeping this "special" going but for the time being any domain you register includes 1 free year of whoisguard.

I didn't use the free whoisguard because I didn't want to hide my identity -- in case anyone wonders who owns my sites. However, I live in a "developing country", so I don't get calls from companies trying to offer me hosting for example. For many it can be a very nice bonus.

Free whoisguard is also a very smart marketing technique. People getting it free for 1 year might get used to having it and decide to purchase whoisguard the second year. I like smart business when I see it!

I didn't particularly like the idea of hiding my identity either.  But alas here in the USA it seems like ever increasing numbers of telemarketers are harvesting whois information.  I grew tired of the incredible amounts of SPAM and growing number of phone calls that seemed to be directly related to my whois info.  Only time will tell for certain, but a good sign is that I have purchased a couple of domains for future use, protected those with the whoisguard, and so far all is quite.

I use Namecheap as well and they've been outstanding.
Their userinterface is also quite easy to get around - compared to others which i use *cough daddy *
And ofcourse, their free whois guard is what makes all the difference.  Afro

Glad to hear it! Smiley I didn't have any problems with them since I wrote my review above either.

For anyone who might be reading your post, I validate your review by confirming that your email address domain is at Namecheap.

Yes, looking for coupons is always a great idea. $1 or so in savings might not be much, but for those who have lots of domains and if you think long term, the savings can add up.

http://www.dncoupons.com is a good place that is kept up-to-date.

I use namecheap and love there control panel any day over godaddy and others. But I have sent them support email's and no reply ever. But I never needed to before that because all went fine. I just sent a email asking if I could get back a domain I let expire and how much. But no reply ever so that might be a bad thing. Other then that they are good I use them for almost all my domain's and like them more then any other's.

Hmm... that's not good. It didn't happen to me though. I had to contact them twice (I had some trouble using my card) and as far as i recall, I was satisfied by the promptitude of their reply. of course they couldn't really help. I had to contact my bank since the card was disabled for a security related reason.

Yes, I have 17 domains over there. Go ahead and check www.theparacast.com to confirm. I also used GoDaddy at one time and they tried to hijack my most trafficked domain.

As far as namecheap.com is concerned, they are cheap, efficient, and offer all the controls I need to manage my domains. And they don't annoy me with constant promotions and such. And that's what I like in a domain registrar, which is for them to stay out of the way unless you need to change something.

Namecheap is a very reliable domain registrar! I like their services! But sometimes domain transfer can be very difficult procedure, which can take up to 3-8 days to be completed!
