I purchased a one-year plan with a private web hosting provider last year because the owner is a friend of a friend.

He set me up for ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 support, as well as 2 MS-SQL databases with decent storage and unlimited bandwidth (within reason).  It was a good deal for $150 per year with the registration of 3 domain names.

Unofrtunately, he's using mega*servers (megaftpservers.com, megasqlservers.com, etc.), with www.24hourwebhostingsupport.com and www.vmsol.com console.

Needless to say, their ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 has not been supported, even though my account with them is ASP.NET enabled.  It simply isn't allowing any aspx pages and codebehind to be compiled.  Their tech support verifies that it doesn't work and that it's their problem.  Last month, they've forward my case to their "2nd level" support, but I haven't heard a peep from them since.

If you want to sign-up for a private hosting provided, make sure they don't use mega*servers.com and 24hourwebhostingsupport.com.

Sorry to hear about your unsatisfactory experience. May we know a domain that you host/have hosted there?

Sure, it was humblegeek.com (and .net, .org).

I just signed-up earlier this week with CrystalTech for their ASP/ASP.NET 2.0 Intermediate plan at $16.95/month (no setup fee with a 3-month sign-up).  The sign-up process was very well executed (fast automatic process), including a new domain name: 2geek.org.  There's only a small web-app there right now, no site yet.

When I'm certain I'm happy with CrystalTech's hosting, I'll migrate my humblegeek domains over and publish this site.

As for setup, CrystalTech has been great.  They are one of many hosts who use a third-party major hosting provider/datacenter.  CrystalTech uses Sterling Network Services, and so far, their bandwidth and reliability have been excellent.  The web app they use as a domain/account control panel is superb.  About every setting and every type of reporting is there in a very intuitive interface (https://www.webcontrolcenter.com/customer.aspx). Even though their control panel mentions IE 5.x or above is required, it works perfectly in Firefox 1.5.

Thank you for the detailed followup! I hope CrystalTech will pass the testing period. Smiley
