Hi there,

I just got my domain parked by some shady company I don't remember doing business with. However, my current registrar didn't send me any notice. Worse is I can't remember who was my legitimate registrar, and in case I need to change domains, that would be unwieldy since so many people and redirectors use that domain email adresses.

So, how can I check the WHOIS history of my own domain for cheap or free?

http://who.is/whois may give you a limited history (archive).

hosterstats.com can help you find a namerservers history for a given domain (not for all TLDs though).

Still, you can find out who the real, upstream, registrar is, and ask them for assistance - I'm assuming you are listed as the owner of the domain.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure what exactly happened. Did the domain registration expire recently?

And put your url or Ip in  the box , click on lookup you will get the all information you need for free Smiley

Update:

So, I couldn't remember the registrar. It was Internet.bs, which has been dishonest by not sending any reminder as to the domain's expiration. So, I want to switch to Papaki now. Seems there's no provision at my old registrar to manually "remove" a domain. Or maybe there is, but I would then need to wait forever for their email, and they already proven they're not serious.

So, according to .NET registry rules, I renewed the domain at my old registrar, and asked for a transfer to Papaki.

I mentioned "FOR FREE" in the topic heading. Thanks for reading.

Update: turns out Papaki is just an eNom reseller *sigh*. I'll have to move sooner than later.
Where can I find a decent registrar that's not US, not Canada, and not France-based?Huh?

The vast majority of registrars will probably be resellers of Enom, Resellerclub and Godaddy (Wildwestdomains), so, yes, you need to be careful about that.

http://www.webhosting.info/registrars/top-registrars/global/ might help you find a decent registrar located in a country that is fine for you (there is more than one page of results of registrars ordered by size there).

On the link you provide, they seem not to make any distinction between resellers and final selllers. How can they be ?

If you want to be sure, you'll have to ask the provider you're interested in, but I imagine that most companies in the top there are accredited registrars, not resellers.

That's always better to contact the company and find out the necessary info from them.
