Hi,

Thanks for having this forum first of all!

I am a newbie, so take this into consideration please.
I seem to be having a tough time finding a reliable and trustworthy host for what I need. I came here in hopes of some good advice. Here's what i'm looking for:

It's a hobbie/information site about friends and travel.
I need a site builder, guestbook and counter.
I'd like a decent amount of pages to build from (10)?, but will have many links.
I'm looking into the 4-5 dollar range (I've found what seem to be good deals at around 4-4.95).
I have a domain already.
Being a novice, customer support is important.

I think possibly a host like "mochahost.com"'s soho plan (4.95) or "westhost"'s personal plan (3.95) could be good.

There may be other hosts that offer less space which may be suitable for me, but I'm not too sure about them ex: tripod, fortunecity, angelfire. I hear not that great reviews about them.

Any and all help will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Bobbyboy

Hi!

(Mods I think this topic should be moved to requests..)

<snipped>

Regarding the other hosts they do look good to go too but I would recommend IMO starting with a small plan and maybe not going with a host that overly oversells Wink.

Tripod and angelfire aren't really the best hosts for anyone. They are amazingly simple and may restrict you further down the line.

Hope you find a host you can trust, and is right for you! Smiley

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your reply and help!

I'm finding that the more I learn, the more I need to learn. Like I said, i'm just a newbie, but I want what I pay for like anyone else.

I will be looking at your place and I like that idea that it has a forum!

Thanks again,

Sounds to me like the OP is asking for recommendations and advice rather than offers, so the thread is OK here. He's free to start a thread in the advertising section though, if he wants to receive offers, as acording to the rules hosts may not advertise in this section of the board. Smiley

That is of no importance. The host you go with doesn't have to use the same operating system as you do, so you can go with a host running Linux, FreeBSD etc without worry.

These are better known as free hosting providers, and most feedback you'll find about them will probably be about this part of their service.

The number of links on your pages should be of little to no importance from a hosting point of view. Links are just regular HTML code. It sounds to me like your most important need is that regarding customer support, so you should pay lots of attention to customer reviews at places like webhostingtalk.com and sitepointforums.com. Use their search feature thoroughly as they're big old forums with reach archives.

Good luck!

I apologise for the misunderstanding Wink.

I would like to suggest using the DirectAdmin control panel http://www.directadmin.com with Installatron http://www.installatron.com installed. This will also help you when searching for your new host by limiting search results.

Thank you all for your advice, I think these forums are fantastic, especially for someone like me that doesn't, as yet, have that much knowledge.

I have gone with westhost. I sent them 5 different e-mails at different times and days and they got back to me almost immediately each time. I'm still exploring the "how's" on building my site, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Again, thank you all for your help!

I myself do not know much about Westhost. I hope you post here about your service with them  Afro

Good luck with your new host! Westhost is a well established provider.

Come back and write us a detailed review after a few months of experiencing their service! Smiley
