Hello,

Does anyone happen to know any high-profile clients / customers using 1&1 Internet Ltd.

The reason I ask is that I'm in the process of developing a web site for a Hotel here in Scotland and just need to find any other customers who were happy with 1&1 or any other company for that matter before registering.

We only really need PHP, MySQL, 2Gb size, 10Gb data transfer.

Thanks,

M.

Hello and welcome to WHRForums Michael!

You can find quite a bit of feedback about 1and1 if you do a search over at www.webhostingtalk.com. Choose the "search titles only option" to get to the interesting stuff fast. I don't know how many are "high profile", but they are/were customers nevertheless.

One think to note is that UK customers, must buy from 1and1.co.uk, and the prices there are higher compared to 1and1.com.

Another thing to know is that your site will be hosted in Germany, not in the UK. This is of no importance if you use a .co.uk domain, but if you use another domain, then the search engines won't know that your site is "in UK", and you can lose some search engine traffic.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

yes, read the user reviews, and you`ll be impressed that you`ll find both very negative like "stay away from" and positive responces, sometimes they are based on a real customers experince, sometimes these posts write the representatvies of the compnies

That can happen, but it is a rare occurance that these reviews remain online, if the forum/website is well managed, and some kind of proof is required from the reviewer.

Just remember that WHT, and most review sites, cater to certain market segments on the hosting population. They'll attract the negative reviews more than the positive ones.

As for 1&1, they're the largest webhost around. I've heard for basic things, they'll be fine.

It's a given. marketers have known for decades that unsatisfied cusotmers will be way more vocal than happy ones. Some say that the ratio of spreading the "news" is about 10:1.

1&1 are oversellers.
the bandwidth they give for the small prices are ridiculous.
they might as well rent/purchase one server for every 8 customers they get because, if they didn't oversell, that's what they would have to do.

I agree, perhaps speed may be compromised.
