Here ya go. That's what the ant farms look like. They come with food and some way of feeding them without them escaping. It's been years since I had to keep them, don't remember much. I believe they have a life span of about a month, so I would think it'd be hard to really bond with them..

I have dog, a border collie.  Her name is Jess.  I have had her for 13 years.  I believe she knows me better than myself. For instance if I am coming down with a bad cold she will come over to me in a sympathetic way longer before the symptoms of the cold hit me.

That's pretty cool crazypenguin. I've heard of dogs knowing about our lack of health status before we know it ourselves. Apparently they can feel (probably smell, though there may be behavioral cues as well) when an epileptic seizure is about to occur.

About my guinea pig, unfortunately, he (initially we thought he was a she) died a couple of weeks ago. We were quite devastated by this, so we're not sure we're going to get another pet, or at least, not very soon.

I am not looking forward to the day my dog Jess finally passes away.  Being 13 years old, almost 14, I don't think she has many more years left.  Jess is the sixth dog I have owned.  Everyone I have had was like a member of the family to me.  As I am now getting up in age, I am debating if it would a good idea to get another dog when she goes.

I am sorry to hear about the death of your guinea pig.  It is very sad when they go.  May he rest in peace.
