I was trying to find out how I could make phpLD a cPanel addon. Any ideas?
How could I get hosts to offer it?

Convince the developers of fantastico that the script (the free version of course) is comparable in terms of popularity with other scripts that they autoinstall (http://www.netenberg.com/fantastico_scripts.php), offer to help them iron out any kinks they might face in the process of integrating it in their offer, and anything else they might require. Once you're in the Fantastico list, you'll have the script at the fingertips of probably 90% of cPanel users.

Or try to convince Installatron (Fantastico's competition) to add it to their list, and use that as an argument to get into Fantastico as well.

It would appear that these autoinstaller developers tend to prefer software that have certain licenses though (GPL and the like), or maybe it's these applications that more easily become popular enough to become a blip on their radar?

Yes, I have been asking them for over 2 years (since I made this post). I don't think the makers of Fantastico have added any scripts.

Sorry to hear about that. There are some other scripts installers on the market these days, and a bit of competition regarding the number of applications that can be installed (SimpleScripts and Softaculous come to mind) . Did you try those as well?

Yes, we are already part of Softaculous and Installatron. Simple scripts wants some insane amount like $1500/month, so its like "forget that!" Smiley

Haha! That's quite insane, especially given that it's basically only used by Bluehost and Hostmonster. Now, they're a big player in the hosting market, but not that big. I mean, you can't probably expect more than 1 in 1000 customers to install your specific application anyway. Of those, probably more than half would still install it manually, even if there isn't an automated way. It just doesn't make sense to pay for this, not anywhere near the amount they're asking. Their company is not big enough for it.

Quite interesting that SimpleScripts wants $1500/month?  Now is that per server?  I am curious as to what their terms state for usage of SimpleScripts?

I believe that SimpleScripts is free for the hosting providers. Someone has to be charged eventually, so it would appear they want the software developers to be the ones who pay.

From the literature on their website, they claim to offer custom packages for a small fee.

From here:

What about Custom Packages?
SimpleScripts currently supports over 70 applications, and we add new scripts on a regular basis. If you need a script that we don't offer, we'll quickly add it to the library for a small fee.

I guess the wording small fee is relative.  Maybe $1500 is a small fee for someone very wealthy.  As for me, I don't consider $1500 to be a small fee.

Very interesting find!

Well, to Mr. Matt Heaton, it's probably small change.  Tongue

Currently, there are many other add-ons like fantastico offering more application than it.
