Writing an objective, detailed review, is one of the most generous things a person can do for the web community at large. Our deepest respect goes towards those who choose to take time and share what they know.

A review has a lot of power, positive or negative, and because that power can easily be misused, strict rules must be created and enforced.

Please note that this subforum is very seriously moderated. Abuse of any form will not be tolerated.

These rules might seem complicated or numerous, but they're only following common sense. It is recommended that you keep these rules open in another browser window and swift through them while writing your review.

Rules for reviewers:

1. The reviewer must have direct experience with the host.
2. The name of the reviewed host(s) should be present in the thread's title. If they are too many, the reviewer is asked to start more than a single thread. The reason for this rule: to facilitate the efficient use of the search feature.
3. Users may add their review to an existing thread if the thread is about the host they want to review. We reserve the right to split the thread if we deem it is appropriate for the new review to have its own thread.
4. Users may start a blog type of review, that will be updated as time goes on. If this is the case, a new thread must be started.
5. A reviewer must be willing to defend his/her position. Hosts may be announced by the admins of this board and given the opportunity to defend their reputation or post a "Thank you!" message. If you post a review you agree that you will communicate and cooperate with the host and the moderators of this board. The aim here is to uncover the truth, and that usually means knowing the story from both sides of the fence.
6. Hit and run tactics will not work here, meaning that reviews may be removed if the reviewer doesn't follow up. We don't want hosts to be bashed without reason or to have hosts receive false praises.

Additionaly, when writing reviews, users must reveal:

1. At least one website they own that is or was hosted by the host they're reviewing. If for personal or business related motives, the reviewer doesn't want to make his website public (e.g. resellers reviewing their provider but wanting to maintain their anonymity) they still have to send that information by PM to one of the moderators. This is done in an attempt to limit abuse and allow the reviewed host to verify things on their end, so by giving us that information by PM, email, or otherwise, you grant us the right to share it with the reviewed host.
2. The length of their experience with each reviewed host (when it started, when it ended). Rough estimates are OK as this is not a trial. Wink

Things to be addressed in a quality review:
-How was the initial setup?
-How was support? (politeness, response time, resolution time, knowledgeability, spelling, grammar etc.) Detailed examples of how things were handled would be most helpful.
-How was the uptime? Which were the reasons/causes for downtime? Was planned downtime announced ahead of time? If the customer has monitored the uptime in any way, he may post such statistics or a link to them.
-Server performance (high/low load, slow/fast server etc.)
-Network performance
-As many meaningful details as the reviewer can remember
-Bad/good things that seem to repeat themselves over and over again.
-A conclusion: Does the reviewer recommend this host?

Rules for hosts:

1. Hosts may reply to threads concerning them (to defend themselves, try to make things right for the customer or to simply say "Thank you!" for the review), but no advertising or other fluff will be tolerated. Please stick to the point.
2. Hosts may not request their customers to post reviews here while using incentives to encourage positive reviews.

Rules for all other users:

All users may post in review threads, ask on topic questions etc.
