I did, a long time ago. I can't say it was bad. It fit my simple needs. One of the free hosts I used was Netfirms, but they've turned to paid hosting which I also tried some years ago. It pretty much sucked, but that perception could also have a lot with the fact that I became a much more aware/sophisticated web hosting customer in the years that had passed.

I would not shy away from using free hosting, but I would definitely keep a recent backup of my data in case things turn really sour.

We keep a few free hosting accounts in order to check on where this market niche stands, but they are only for testing purposes. I do not thing that there is value in "Free Hosting".
