I'd been with this hosting company for about 6 months after a HORRIBLE experience with a previous host and they are probably the best UK host I have used so far.

It's a small, 2-man company, but since they weren't very well known they didn't have millions of customers and were still able to offer a personal service and were very quick to respond to issues.  The hosting was ridiculously cheap too.  I was paying £1.99 a month which is at most $4.  It wasn't unlimited bandwidth or domains but it was plenty for what I used.  10 domains and 40Gb bandwidth.

If I ever went over my limit I could easily upgrade to a higher package and to be honest, when you're starting out online you only want a very basic very cheap option to get going.

Uptime was a bit of an issue at times though.  Being small I guess it was harder for them to react to problems and fix them and so there were a few times when they were down and it took a while to get them back up again.  Also, uploading too much data via FTP was a problem for their servers and on more than one occasion crashed all my sites I had hosted with them.

I recently left them to join Hostgator because I needed a company a bit bigger and a bit more reliable.  Actually the main reason I left is because another hosting company bought GeekSRV out and it was a company I'd heard bad reviews about and also I just didn't want to be dealing with a company by default.

I think the packages and plans will remain the same, so if you are interested in very cheap, UK based hosting they are certainly worth a look.  They use cPanel which was a biggie for me since the last host used Plesk which is AWFUL!

Indeed, it looks like geeksrv are owned by Othellotech now. Actually, given that they're a bigger host, I suppose things could improve in some aspects.

In any case, nice to hear they were good enough for you while you used them.

Yeah I got the email about the Othellotech takeover this past week.

I've got one domain still with them and will keep it there for a bit just to monitor.  If I can, I'll always use an English company as it just feels a bit more patriotic to me.  Having said that, Hostgator are pretty awesome too!
